Not sure of the exact dates yet, but we'll be on Oahu either July 28-30 enroute to Kaua'i \
/ or Aug 10-12 on our way home. 
Anyone else have any input on Waikiki hotels?

Hmmm...no one has mentioned the "W" -- reportedly very upscale, contemporary and kewl (just like you and Marteen), and located waaaaay down at the quiet end of Waikiki (you said you wanted "quiet"):

Love the way they categorize their rooms -- choose from "wonderful", to "extreme wow"!

One more...we really like the Alana Doubletree (now a Hilton property). It caters to the business traveler, and doesn't really encourage families:
