Gulf Shores or Destin??

I need some advice from people who have traveled to both places. We (family of 4 - kids 10 & 14) have been to Gulf Shores and loved it. We are tempted to go back, but also wondering if we should try Destin instead?
We loved that GS had plenty to do but was still laid back and not overly crowded.
Destin looks beautiful but I am worried that we will just be driving further for the same beaches etc but more crowded and less relaxing?? Any thoughts?
We are traveling in July. Thx for the help!

I haven't been to Destin in a long time...the only thing I really remember is the whitesand beaches, which of course you get in Gulf Shores too. But I just love Gulf Shores too! If you're looking for new ideas of things to do in GS, look at this web site: www.thebeachiscalling.org. Lots of good info there.

I've been to both, although we only spent a day in Destin and didn't stay there overnight. We did stay several days in Gulf Shores. My vote would be Gulf Shores. To me, Destin did not feel as relaxing, because of all the traffic and crowds. Driving anywhere was such a hassle. But...that might not bother some people. You get beautiful beaches with both.

I was asking my brother and sister-in-law this very question last weekend - I'm thinking about a short trip later this summer but haven't been to either, whereas they have. Their general opinion was that the beaches are about the same, but there is more to "do" in Destin (outlet shopping was mentioned), whereas Gulf Shores is more lounge-on-the-beach territory. Which actually sounds pretty perfect to me, but your kids may want more "stuff to do."

Having been to both, I agree with most of the others. Destin is busier and more crowded, with more other stuff in the immediate area. Gulf Shores is uncluttered and more relaxing with less other stuff to do.
