I think she means Dr. Beach.
Go to: http://www.drbeach.org/drbeach/
Each year he tries to come up with a new list. Sort of a publicity stunt to call attention to our country's best beaches and what must be done to keep them that way. LMF

In years past I liked Destin and Grayton Beaches. Does anybody know how Destin survived all the hurricanes?
I know Perdido Key near Pensacola took it right in the teeth and many condos had to be stipped to the beams and studs and rebuilt because of mold.

It's beautiful. Prettier than Ocracoke for certain, but I don't think there's an iota of difference between Ft Desoto and Caladesi. Caladesi might even slightly edge out Desoto, to me anyway.
But, it should be all about what is important to you. Dr. Beach has a definite bias toward undeveloped beaches, so although the sand and water at Clearwater Beach is the prettiest in the area, it will never make his list because of the development. Actually, Caladesi is just the northern extension of Clearwater Beach now. It used to be a separate island until a storm filled in the cut between it and Clearwater Beach. You can now walk from CWB to Caladesi. If you like a beach with a little beach bar or tiki hut, cabanas, don't head to either Caladesi or Desoto...you might prefer St Pete Beach, or CWB instead. If you love the look of a beach with no shops, restaurants or bars steps off the beach, Desoto or Caladesi would be the place for you.
