Golden Nugget, great rate, far off the strip?

I will be in Vegas in March and have found a great deal at The Golden Nugget. I am wondering if it is really far off the strip and if cab costs will offset any savings I may get on the cheap hotel rate ($200 for three nights)? Thanks for your help.

Isn't the Golden Nugget downtown. In that case it's a $1.50 bus ride to the strip and NO you should not walk it.

It is downtown - either $1.50 bus ride or a $10+ cab ride... It's a very nice hotel though.

The Golden Nugget is the only hotel downtown that I personally would consider staying at. The rooms are very nice and the hotel consistently receives the AAA-four diamond award.

However, if your interests revolve around the strip, you are in the wrong location. A cab ride could cost as much as $20 to the strip, depending upon the traffic and how far down the strip you need to go. There is a bus available that runs constantly.

I would definitely consider the Golden Nugget and save the $200, but once here, I would concentrate on spending time downtown. If your main focus is the strip, you really should stay on the strip.

Golden Nugget is fine but a ways from the strip....Cab cost might offset your savings. If you stay downtown don't overlook the other casinos...lots of good history there! I personally like the strip better but will go downtown for a change of pace. If your a basketball fan march is a good time for LV.

You need to decide which "strip" you want to be on. The new strip is where the new hotels are: Treasure Island, Mirage, Bellagio, Venetian, Caesar's, etc. Big hotel/casinos with big pools, etc.

The old strip is the one where Golden Nugget is. The hotel/casinos are older down there, smaller, but often more friendly and with easier rules.

Some people prefer the old strip.

Golden Nugget is a very good hotel, located in downtown LV. vegaslocal was right on on every point, but one. (On my last visit last fall, I recall the bus service to the strip (where I was staying) from downtown, concluded around 12:30am) A main issue only you can address, is whether or not the strip is of high importance to you. If it is, you might want to check into rooms at Monte Carlo or Flamingo, as each occasionally have winter deals available)

GN access to the LV strip, about a 15-30 minute cab ride, can be obtained best via taxi's, but bus service does run well into the night, taking about twice as long (time of day and strip location make a big difference affecting travel times). Bus is $1.50 each way; taxi's will run between $8 - $20, again, depending on where on the strip you wish to be. Note too, bus service at evening rush hour, is horrific.

You can check out all the LV hotels and get useful info at cheapovegas.com)

Look on the strip for a hotel. I stayed in Flamingo last summer for $45 a night. So bargains can be had if price is the question
