taking the bus in Vegas
Staying downtown at the Golden Nugget for the first time next month. Wondering about the bus ride between there and the strip. Does the bus stop at, or close to, the GN?I've read some stories about downtown that make me wonder if that is a safe option. Maybe the bus is a daytime thing to do but it's safer to cab it at night? We're not timid travelers and normally wouldn't hestitate - could it be that I've just read some reports from people over reacting? Thanks for your help.

I'm a female who traveled solo to Vegas last year. I'm not the bravest person around and I wasn't afraid. The bus is full of people going and coming from downtown. The stop is only a two or three minute walk to the Golden Nugget. Just stay under the canopy downtown and you'll be fine day or night.

I almost always stay downtown, at the California or Main Street. It's very safe! As for the bus....I'm not sure how often it runs so you may want to catch a cab just for the convenience. I caught it during the day to get from the strip to the outlet mall in downtown, but that took a while.

If you can handle crowded conditions you will have no problem with buses. 'Vegas is actually a pretty safe city, but use common sense and keep an eye on purse, etc. just the same.
I am in Vegas often and normally rent a car when with my husband but last week I was there with 2 of my friends. We cabbed everywhere and it was quite expensive (luckily we split 3 ways), average fare was $12-$15 and we took many cab rides. The weather can affect ground travel in 'Vegas alot, if it is raining traffic will be much slower and more people in cabs and buses.
If you have time try and catch Geordie Brown at the GN, he is good. I'd also recommend "Havana Night Club" at the Stardust, very good Cuban dance troupe who put on a beautiful (and high energy) show.
