I guess the joke is on me!! Sorry Gekko, Dumb and Dumber is more my husband's movie taste than mine -- and he's much older than I am (that's my story and I'm sticking with it!).

Re: Serendipity-it might be "touristy" because much of NYC especially at Christmas time is full of tourists, but that has never been a Bad Thing to me.
But if one considers it expensive-all the dishes are So Big!! that they are easily shared, especially the desserts!
You should not skip a place because someone considers it touristy or expensive, at least take a look and see how nice it is

Thanks for the replies... lunch at La Bonne Soup is now definitly on our hit list, I am a sucker for good onion soup. Tea at Takashimaya sounds great - if I were traveling with girlfriends. I don't see my husband enjoying afternoon tea unfortunately. If we get down towards Grand Central we'll try and stop in there. I thought that it might be like Union Station in DC - which is really nothing more than ordinary chain food outlets, but the recommendations are encouraging. Right now we're off to the Burger Joint for lunch before we tackle the crowds!! on 5th Ave.

LoriNY - glad to hear that you enjoyed the movie. We haven't decided whether or not to go again yet... depends on how much we get done and how tired we are tonight and tomorrow night. You know I have to ask - was your sound loud?

guess somebody topped this for some reason. I am glad. I am putting Dumb and Dumber on my Netflix list to keep up with the times.
