Gillin Beach House in Kauai
Aloha! We just returned from two amazing weeks in Kauai. It was our fist time there and we loved the laid-back feel and the small-town community the island has. I was a confirmed Maui fan forever, but no more! Kauai is the best! Anyhow, while we were there we scoped out a beach house rental that we are now working on booking for our next trip called the Gillin Beach House in the Maha'ulepu area two miles or so past the Hyatt on the south shore.
Has anyone out there stayed here? I would love to connect with someone who has actually stayed there and chat with them.

What a coincidence! We are looking at that same place for a trip to Kauai next year. I hope someone responds.
We have never been to Kauai before - to Maui twice, and to the Big Island once, and are planning to do two islands on our trip next year, but are unable to decide which ones. I would love to hear your comparison of Maui and Kauai.

Dear Pinnacle,
I loved Kauai. For pure relaxation and quiet it is the best. When I go to Hawaii I go to totally chill out and Kauai proved to be the ticket this time around. The beaches on the north shore are incredible and rival and in the case of Tunnels Beach, surpass beaches on Maui for beauty. It is much lower key than Maui and the resorts are less "mega" and more sedate, even the Hyatt and The Princeville. I have been to Maui several times and ended up staying in Hana on my last few visits because I wanted beauty, solitude and to be surrounded by a pleasant local atmosphere. I found these things in abundance in Kauai. As far as Gillin Beach House goes...I do know that the place books up quickly and we are on the list for 2005 They claim on their site that the beach is conducive to swimming and snorkeling, but some guide books and other sources contradict this...so who knows? I have been on a hike to this general area and it is a beautiful area and is secluded. Let me know if you find out any more info about this place. You'll love Kauai.

Orchid and Joan,
The area is remote to a point, but the Hyatt, Koloa Town and the whole Poipu area are just a few minute drive away. It's not that far from civilization. To us it seems like it could be the perfect mix of seclusion and modern resort vacationing. The idea of having this area mostly to ourselves is very appealing.
