Maui or Kauai
Our first visit to Hawaii with grandparents, and family including toddlers. We are looking at Kaanapali Shores, Maui or Kiahuna Plantation, Kauai Beach Villas, Kauai. Any suggestions.

We liked Kiahuna Plantation. There is a large lawn areas leading to the beach, which would be nice for the toddlers. However, this is a large complex and if you want to see the ocean you will need to get into one of the units above the lawn I am speaking of. There is a row of units behind them.

If you do decide on Kiahuna, you can save some $ by renting directly from the owner. vrbo.com has many listing for Kiahuna and you could try this one as well:

Maui and Kauai have very different feelings. Maui has more traffic while Kauai is laid back. On Maui the beaches are very accessible while on Kauai they are less so, but still accessible. Maui has more touristy things and shopping while Kauai has more natural beauty.
If you stay on Kauai and you have toddlers then I recommend you stay near Poipu Beach park in Poipu or near Lydgate state park on the east side. Both of these have very safe swimming areas for little children.
