Ghost tours in Chicago

Has anyone ever been on one of these tours? I am planning on going to Chicago in October and am looking for something cool and unique to do w/my friends. Any info on these tours or Halloween activities in Chicago in October would be appreciated. Thanks.

Also, I did check out the website of the guy who runs the tours, just looking for some feedback or other scary activity info!

The Chicago Architecture foundation has a guided tour of Graceland Cemetery on Sunday October 27 at 2:00 pm www.architecture.org. You might also be able to visit on your own but I can't seem to find a link directly to the cemetery.

When it gets closer to October, you might try checking out www.metromix.com or www.877chicago.com

Kris: What's the fun of going on a ghost tour at 2 in the afternoon?

Most cemetery tours are in the afternoon, I doubt they leave them open at night due to vandalism and safety concerns. It was just a suggestion for something "Halloweeny", a lot of people enjoy that sort of thing.

I am a local and I went on the "Richard Crowe" ghost tour down the Chicago river ... waste of time and $. There was nothing scary or interesting about it.

Kris: Please - I wasn't criticizing you - just thought it a waste to visit a cemetery in the afternoon if you're looking for thrills. And, you are right - no cemetery would be open after dark.

Have to agree with sasha about the Richard Crowe tours. Yes, were old but we don't have any good ghost stories. You can check out Graceland at www.graveyards.com/graceland/ or another haunted cemetery to check out is Rosehill on the north side not too far from Graceland www.graveyards.com/rosehill/ a great book about Chicago ghosts is called "Chicago Haunts" by Ursula Bielski.

Katrina, no offense taken. We've been on a cemetery tour in New Orleans and thought it was interesting but it was done in the daylight and Pere La Chaise cemetery is on a lot of people's to do list in Paris. Graceland has popped up on "Wild Chicago" as an offbeat thing to do in Chicago.

I thought Mr. Crowe's tours were a bit overpriced, glad to hear someone's opinion who has actually done it.

I think the Museum of Science and Industry has a haunted house every year that's supposed to be good but I haven't visited it (hardly unique but just another thought).

And I vaguely remember the Friends of the Chicago River having a party last year on the river, check out www.chicagoriver.org when it gets closer to Halloween.
