Getting to Marin County Farmer's Mkt from SF

Is it possible to take public transport from San Francisco to the Marin county Farmer's Market for their Sunday market? If so, can someone point me to the website where I can plan my route? Thanks.

There is a ferry from San Francisco to Larkspur, then a free shuttle to the transportation center in San Rafael. However, you that will leave you 2.5 miles from the market at the Civic Center. Apparently, there is bus service but I don't know about Sunday morning service.

(My husband used the ferry and shuttle last year to meet a friend in San Rafael when we were on a visit to SF.)

Then google for the bus service to the market.

i hope someone else will have a simpler suggestion for you!

One of my best friends was a Golden Gate Transit bus driver between SF & Marin County. One day I rode her route with her, over & back, and I'm certain one stop was the civic center. See if their trip planner will give you the route: http://goldengate.org/schedules.php

I don't think it is practical without a car. Per the journey planner depending on the time of day -- from the Ferry terminal to the Civic center on a Sunday you'd two buses and 31 to 58 minutes. And that is after the ferry ride. The direct 70 bus service from San Francisco to San Rafael takes 80 minutes to the transit center and then it is another 3.5 miles to the Civic center.

Is there some reason you want to go to THIS particular farmer's market? Every town around here has a Sunday farmer's market, and Saturdays at the Ferry Bldg in San Francisco is what New York Magazine once referred to as the "grandaddy of them all".

Thanks for all the replies. We will be in San Francisco for 8 days staying near the Ferry Building and its fantastic market. But I am something of a market freak, read about the Marin County market and thought it might make a nice day trip. The idea of taking a ferry there is especially appealing but I don't think the rest of the trip sounds like something I could convince my husband to embark upon. Looks like we'll just have to wait until a time when we are with someone who drives. Again though, thanks for so many helpful replies. I now know I could piece this all together but it would be a kind of transport marathon that probably would leave us little time to enjoy the destination. Fodors folks are always so helpful.
