Getting a cab on UWS NYC

Well, I'm down to planning the end of our NY trip--namely how to get from the Lucerne to LaGuardia. We have an 8:30 pm flight out of LGA on Thursday, Sept.1

Would it be best to arrange a car service pick up at the Lucerne instead of planning on getting a cab? We will have to leave for the airport by 6 pm (maybe even 5:30) and that will be during rush hour. It will also be the Thursday of Labor Day weekend and, as was pointed out, many NYers may be starting the holiday weekend early and traffic even worse.

Also, we have tickets to a 7 pm show on Tuesday night, and tickets to a 2 pm matinee on Wednesday. Do you think a cab will be difficult to get at the hotel at those times?

Thank you guys so much. I know you've answered these questions a gazillion times. I hope you know how helpful you all are.

In general you shouldn't have any trouble hailing a cab on the UWS. (Exceptions are weekday morning rush hour and weekend evenings when everyone is heading downtown.)

But for your drive to LGA, I'd suggest hiring a car service. Try www.carmellimo.com.

Definitely book a car service to the airport and leave yourself plenty of time. For just basic transportation, Carmel or Tel Aviv work

carmellimo.com
telavivlimo.com

For a step up try Crown limo.

I don't think you'll have a hard time with cabs for getting to your shows but there's also the bus straight down Broadway or the subway. The #1 train at Broadway & 79th st. stops at 50th & Broadway and also Times Square.

I agree with the car service. It isn't much more expensive than a cab and is much more relaxing. I always use a car service to the airport and cab from.

Thanks! We'll do a car service to the airport for sure, and I'm glad to hear that several methods of getting to Times Square are do-able.

It's always easier to get a car service to the airport - so you do;t have to drag luggage out to Broadway - and have a car ready when you want it.

To get a cab (or cruising car service) on the UWS is usually not a problem - except at rush hour - or in a heavy rain. But from there I would take the subway to the theater.

There is even a better way to get there that will same you lots of money. The website is http://www.pickaride.com -this site lets you choose which driver and car you want. You talk to the driver directly. You can choose if you want smoking/non-smoking car. If you need the driver to speak a particular language. It is great....there are other rides & drivers listed there as well...if you are looking for a horse carriage around the park or a quick pedicab ride tour of the city. You can even put comments on how the driver treated you. Great right ????
