Go to www.panynj.gov for all transportation options and their cost, EWR to Midtown. The most convenient and fastest way, and most expensive, is taxi - cost between $45 and $50. There are also train and bus options. You would use the Long Island Railroad to get to the Coliseum. Trains leave from Penn Station in midtown.

The best way to get from Newark to Midtwon is using and Transit [public buses and trains]. Thand is how hundreds of thousands onf New Jersey commuters come into Manhattan everday and on weekends.
The website is www.njtransit.state.nj.us
From Midtown to Nassua Coliseum you can take a LIRR train from Penn Station [on 34th street] to the Hemptead station. Out side the Hempstead station a bus will drop you off right in front of Nasau Coliseum. It is a lot more easier than it may sound and it takes no more than an hour. Have fun!

Getting to/from Nassau Coliseum will involve the Long Island Rail Road AND taxis to and from the Coliseum. Leaving the Coliseum after the show might be tricky. You may have to arrange to have a certain cab company come because I don't think that there will be any cabs waiting there....and the LIRR from Hempstead does not leave very often in late evenings. I would suggest the Mineola LIRR station - not too far away, and much more frequent train service in evening and (please don't take this the wrong way, but it's reality check), it's a safer station.
Best transport from Newark to midtown very much depends on budget and time of day/eve. Taxi is, of course, the most expensive, and easiest in terms of wear and tear but rush hour traffic here is a bummer. If it's not rush hour (7-10 am, 4-7 pm) then it's fine. There's now a train/bus shuttle sort of thing. I don't know the details...
