Getaways from New York

Hi,

Was wondering if anyone could give me some ideas for a weekend getaway from NY (Fri-Sun). My husband and myself are celebrating our 5 year anniversary and wanted to go somewhere relaxing, but where we have the option to do things also (i.e. wine tasting, nice restaurants, shopping, etc.). I was looking into the Connecticut area, but not sure if this is the best choice or if there is somewhere else we should try instead. We don't want to drive 4-6 hours, if that helps.

Any ideas would be extremely helpful.
Thanks.

Hi Cristine,

What time of year is your anniversary?

Dutchess County NY / Hudson River Valley is a nice getaway, especially in Fall.

A weekend away in Spring Lake or Bay Head at the Jersey Shore could be nice in late Spring thru early Fall.

There's always Atlantic City if that's your kind of thing. The Spa at Borgata is very nice for some pampering.

Cape May is also a nice getaway for a B&B weekend with great restaurants. This can be for any time of year.

Lambertville, NJ & New Hope, PA could also be a nice destination.

The Mayflower Inn in Litchfield, CT or the Boulders Inn in Preston, CT are both expensive but well worth it.

Newport, RI also fits the bill, as well as the Berkshires in Mass.

Thank you for your help.

Our Anniversary was in Sept, but we are looking to go away Nov. 12-14 of this year. We were looking into something relaxing, but if we got the urge to also do something there is that option also. I was looking into the areas of CT where there are wineries and spa options. I did consider the Borgata in AC but felt it might be too busy. Looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of NY life!

Thanks again for your input.

I strongly recommend Newport, RI. Stay at the Castle Hill Inn. Have dinner there one night and one night at Bouchard. My fiance and I do this every New Year's and we LOVE it.
