General flight cost between east+west coast
Hi,
I was just wondering if anyone knew the general price for a flight between NY to Las Vegas and then San Fran back to NY.
A group of us are planning to travel the east coast and then go to the west coast, we're on a bit of a budget and have noticed that if we book now it'll be around 320 for travel May/Jun.
None of us in the group are familar with internal flights in the US, so it would be great if someone could let me know if this is a "good" price or if we should wait around to see if the price will drop closer to travel.
Thanks
m l

Prices may be higher since you are flying into one city and out of another. I like itasoftware.com as a research tool since you can ask about either specific airports or airports within certain number of miles.
Also, for airports, in NY you have 3 main choices - Newark, LGA (LaGuardia) or JFK. And you can try Oakland instead of SF. Las Vegas only choice is Las Vegas.

$300 is about the going rate for a roundtrip from east to west coast, whether it's open-jaw or not. Most of the time, Saturday night stay required and 14-day advanced purchase.
Sometimes you may find fare sale down to about $200, but they are getting more rare. If you have a large group (10+), then you may get a small discount in a group rate. But $320 is not a bad fare these days.

If you haven't already, definitely check out fares at www.jetblue.com which is a discount airline that doesn't always appear on the usual search engines.

Islip Airport is handy if you live on LI. Otherwise the trip back and forth to the city is very time-consuming, inconvenient (subway or bus to Long Island RR to shuttle or taxi from train station to airport) - and can be quite expensive.
Unless it saves you hundreds of dollars - it is IMHO simply not worth it - esp if your time is limited.
