Las Vegas prices
Hi all. I am shocked at the airfare prices to Vegas at the end of June! Am I missing something or is it just such a popular destination now that they are jacking the prices? I know that traveling on a Friday is a no-no anytime you are searching for low fares, but $400 from DFW?? C'mon! Any advice or solutions are greatly appreciated!

Late to the game, I suspect.
The LV market is unlike any other in the US. I scanned the convention calendar for the last weekend in June and see about 55,000 conventioneers in town for the weekend. Summer weekends are big with the California crowd.
It looks like a case of demand outstripping supply.
You can't even fly Southwest to Las Vegas due to the Wright Amendment (and at this late date you wouldn't get a cheap fare there anyway).
Looks like you're stuck with an inflated fare or you can take your chances with a last minute fare broker or priceline.com etc.

The fares and occupancies in Las Vegas used to be seasonally predicatble. Summer was cheap and fares were low. Same with December.
You simply can't generalize any more. There are weekends which will be cheaper at various times thru the year depending on conventions and such, but to flatly state that some particular month is slower etc is now an overgeneralization.

Yeah, we're going in the middle of July from Portland. When I checked a couple weeks ago, the flights I wanted were wide open, and the fare was $216. When I booked yesterday, the flight going was almost full, and the fare had gone to $268. I'd rather have spent the $260 at the tables (five of us going), where at least the drinks are free. But as TedTurner wrote, prices appear pretty much driven by supply and demand.

This morning (maybe 6AM Eastern), I checked fares for a trip from IAD leaving Friday the 27th and returning Sunday the 29th of June. Travelocity had a fare of only 302 on United, nonstop going out, 1 stop coming back. Both flights departed around 8AM to 9AM.
I just did a search IAD to LAS June 27 to 29 on travelocity and see a fare of only $305 (7:10 AM outbound, travelling via STL) Returning 2:51, arrive after midnite, via DFW.
While I was typing the last paragraph, I was waiting for the response from the website. It has now appeared and says "We're sorry, the price for this trip has changed". It is now $1863.50!!

I called to reserve a Panorama Suite at Aladdin in March because it has 2 bedrooms, ~1800 sq ft and 52 inch TV and there were 3 of us travelling, so we wanted the space. Called and called the hotel. Rate ranged $800-1000.
Called late one night and was told it was $495!
I called the others to confirm this was OK.
10 minutes later I called to confirm and the rate was $900. In a space of 10 minutes.

I hate that. I was frantically trying to book Vegas in July for 4 people and kept getting that "We're sorry, the price for this trip has changed" and then some outrageous price. Seems that only one combo of flights will result in the price you are going for...and it's usually the red-eye. Any other combo will result in them recalculating the price. I did the best on Orbitz...got a decent flight from Pittsburgh to Vegas for around $224.

Just booked Vegas today for 6/13 - 6/15 from Denver. Best I could find was Travelocity at $364 a head. However, we are staying at the MGM Grand Emerald Tower for $99.95 per night. I had no other choice on dates because we're meeting my brother & sister in law. They booked weeks ago on SW Airlines from Tucson paying $99 round trip (who wants to go from Hot to Hotter???). Outrageous fares, but weigh that against how much you really want to go.
