Gatlinburg Fall Foilage 2002

Hello! We are going to Gatlinburg this Saturday for a week. It is "normally" the peak fall foilage week, but some are saying the trees are still green and showing little to no color. Is this true. Has anyone just returned from there or anyone there now? Can you let me know if we are going to see some color. We are staying a week and have been waiting this trip for 6 months plus. We normally go in November for the Christmas lighting and lower rates, and then the leaves are almost all gone. Thanks so much!!

I was in Asheville 10/12/02. Almost no color. Asheville, NC is farther south, but probably similar elevation. Weather has just turned cold this week, so I think the changing will start soon. You have probably timed it about right, just a little on the early side.

I am in Franklin, NC with a view of the Smokies. Strange year for color changes. Yes alot of trees are green with spotty color. Not sure exactly whats going to happen but you may have picked out the perfect week if there is going to be dramatic color. Temperature this morning was 35 degrees with brilliant sunshine forecast so could be...

I just spoke with a Park ranger and he said the color is spotty at Cade's Cove and the Smokies. Hours of operation are sunrise to sunset, check each day to see what those times are. Enjoy!
