Toothpaste ruined my evening in NY.

Just a little heads up for all my traveling friends. All prettied up (and that ain't as easy as it once was) to go out for the evening in NY. After a little wine and bread and cheese to carry us through until after the show, I dashed in to brush my teeth one last time and apply lipstick. Darn if I didn't splash three tiny little drops of toothpaste on the front of my brand new Eileen Fisher coblestone (that's brown for you guys) silk top. No big deal. I grabbed a wet cloth to clean it off. But horrors!!!....it was that toothpaste with the whitener in it and before I could do anything it had bleached the color from my silk top. Even now...after two cold water soaks at home, the top is ruined.

Moral of the story - get rid of any toothpaste with bleach in it. Actually, I didn't realize that was what I had this time. Just grabbed a couple of those little sample toothpaste tubes that the dentist hands out and tossed them in my travel kit. Who knew you could absolutely ruin an outfit? I'll bleach my teeth, but it will be at home and in old clothes from now on. Check your tubes, ladies.

Thanks for the warming.

Next time under similar circumstance I'll just floss and rinse.

This sounds crazy, but if you have a Sharpie in the same color (and they come in every color now!), you can dab it on the back of the fabric to color in the bleached spots. It will stand up to washing for years.

Yes, Duckey, speak up.

Why blame the Chinese?

I thought it was blame Canada.

Now this. We're confused. Explain. Please.

Maybe I'll sue my dentist....but he's neither Chinese or Canadian.

<Check your tubes, ladies.>

Only ladies brush their teeth? Or only ladies are messy enough to spill toothpaste on their clothes? And is the situation reversed when in China?

I think Dukey refers to recent story about toothpaste from China being recalled. Either that or he has lost it for sure.

Only ladies wear (I presume) dark brown Eileen Fisher silk tops -- but you're right, now that I think about it, my DH has a black silk shirt. I stand corrected, Weasel. (MHA)

Put a clean hand towel around your neck to start with.

I do this to protect good ties.

TC, you could squirt some more toothpaste on that blouse of yours and then wrinkle it all up and wash it out. Should get a kind of tie-dyed effect. Wear it out and about in NYC for the evening. Maybe you'll start a new trend.

Cobblestones can come in any color, actually.

Just stop brushing your teeth.

I like mine all hairy. Like they are wearing little teeth socks.
