Here in central Ohio, the average is about $1.70/gal. It's gone up 10 cents in just a few days . . and it's not even the weekend yet. Read an article in the Detroit News today that there was a refinery fire in Illinois over the weekend . . . may add more hurt to already worsening situation. If you can, try to fill up in the smaller towns outside the big cities. At least here, they can be as much as 10 cents/gal. less.
Have a safe trip!

Two weeks ago I paid $1.57 in a suburb of Pittsburgh, PA. It seemed reasonable compared to the Bay area. If you're renting a car, I suggest the minimum one you can get--I had a Neon (at least that's what I think it was) and only used about $10 gas for a week. Think it's still cheaper than flying and you have more flexibility. We take a lot of driving trips here in CA and probably will just bite the bullet and continue. It doesn't seem right though.

Chicago "area" may be $2.10 right now but in the actual city (I live in the Gold Coast/ Lincoln Park area) iit was $2.22 yesterday. That is the second highest in the nation behind San Fransico I think. One reason is an extra added on city gasoline tax on top of prices. They have "gas tax" in the suburbs but the rate is higher in the city. I sure do wish they would do like they did last summer and take away the tax until prices stabalize and go down some!

What is going on here? It seems that we are being conditioned to accept gas prices that exceed $2 a gallon. Is there nothing that we can do to ? Especially here in California where our electricity prices have shot through the roof, the least that those bastard oil companies can do is ease up on the gas prices. Not to mention the fact that our current administration has sold their souls to the titans of the energy industry. Oh well, at least gas here is not expensive as Hong Kong( YET)

Sure hope your car isn't a gas guzzeler!
