Gas Prices

My son and I are planning a trip through Ohio,Pennsylvania and Virginia the week of May 13th and we were wondering what the average gas prices were?

Sunny May 2nd, 2001 11:15 AM

In the Virginia Beach area of VA, lowest grade unleaded is about $1.70 a gallon. :-( Sure hope your car isn't a gas guzzeler!

Just be glad you are not visiting Calif.
Yesterday price per gallon was $1.91
to $2.01. Today went up 20cents "because" they had a fire in refinery in L.A. area!!

Kate, you must be in So. California because here on the Peninsula they were $2.12 at the lowest! Summer and tourists coming, I guess.

$1.68 in most of Ohio, although I did find a station in Fremont for $1.53 over the weekend. Prices tend to go down on Sunday night and go back up on Wednesday for the weekend.

George:

Here in central Ohio, the average is about $1.70/gal. It's gone up 10 cents in just a few days . . and it's not even the weekend yet. Read an article in the Detroit News today that there was a refinery fire in Illinois over the weekend . . . may add more hurt to already worsening situation. If you can, try to fill up in the smaller towns outside the big cities. At least here, they can be as much as 10 cents/gal. less.

Have a safe trip!

If you are planning on going anywhere near Cedar Point and the Port Clinton area, gas up beforehand. The prices their are higher because it is considered a resort area.

Chicago area - $2.10 Funny - we had "a fire" in Southern Illinois too that's affecting our prices.

Lynn May 3rd, 2001 01:43 PM

I justed paid $1.77 in Alexandria, VA.

kam May 3rd, 2001 02:29 PM

Two weeks ago I paid $1.57 in a suburb of Pittsburgh, PA. It seemed reasonable compared to the Bay area. If you're renting a car, I suggest the minimum one you can get--I had a Neon (at least that's what I think it was) and only used about $10 gas for a week. Think it's still cheaper than flying and you have more flexibility. We take a lot of driving trips here in CA and probably will just bite the bullet and continue. It doesn't seem right though.

Laura May 3rd, 2001 02:37 PM

Today in Kansas City it's $1.69.

Syd May 3rd, 2001 03:22 PM

I just paid $1.66 a gallon for lowest grade gas in Richmond, VA but I'm pretty sure I passed another station earlier in the day for $1.60.(Just wasn't close to a cheaper station when I needed the gas)

Linda May 3rd, 2001 07:58 PM

I was in DC last weekend and saw that gas was around $1.81 a gallon.

In Ellicott City, MD it's between $1.61 & 1.73 (Sunoco), depending on the gas station you go to!!

George May 4th, 2001 09:08 AM

Thank you all for your responses! We certainly seemed to have had a lot of refinery fires lately nationwide!
George

Chicago "area" may be $2.10 right now but in the actual city (I live in the Gold Coast/ Lincoln Park area) iit was $2.22 yesterday. That is the second highest in the nation behind San Fransico I think. One reason is an extra added on city gasoline tax on top of prices. They have "gas tax" in the suburbs but the rate is higher in the city. I sure do wish they would do like they did last summer and take away the tax until prices stabalize and go down some!

Mariela May 4th, 2001 09:33 AM

$1.67 in Falls Church, Virginia.

John May 4th, 2001 10:22 AM

Paid $1.44 yesterday in New Orleans.

Lui May 4th, 2001 11:01 PM

What is going on here? It seems that we are being conditioned to accept gas prices that exceed $2 a gallon. Is there nothing that we can do to ? Especially here in California where our electricity prices have shot through the roof, the least that those bastard oil companies can do is ease up on the gas prices. Not to mention the fact that our current administration has sold their souls to the titans of the energy industry. Oh well, at least gas here is not expensive as Hong Kong( YET)

Chuck May 5th, 2001 12:40 PM

Gas is now $1.78 in Columbus and predicting to be around $2.00 Memorial Day weekend.
