Gas Fireplace, Gas log Stove, Cast Iron Stove

When researching B&B rooms for my upcoming trips, I realized that even if the room is advertised to have a fireplace, it does not necessarily mean the brick, in-the-wall fireplace. From the pictures I have seen, seems like sometimes it could just be a small stand alone fire "stove". Personally, not as romantic as the "traditional" fireplace I have in mind.

But it's still as practical for roasting marshmellows, right?

While I agree the cast iron stove would not be my idea of romantic, some of the gas fireplaces are. A touch of a button and wa la!

Absolutely earthshaking information...I can just see some of you roasting a marshmellow over the top of a cast iron stove and then cringing when you have to clean up the mess that dropped off and burned onto the top of the thing. THIS is romance?

I agree that the gas fireplaces are great - no need to tend the fire so you aren't distracted from tending to other things.

I agree that gas fireplace is nice! Can get the flame up easily. I just do not buy the idea of the small tiny gas stove with a big hose at its back!

I know what you mean. We stayed at one place that advertised individual fireplaces. Turns out they were gas fireplaces with a flame so small it was like watching the pilot light on your stove. That turned me off gas stoves completely until we stayed at another place that had more realistic gas fireplaces. I still prefer the real thing--a fireplace that turns on and off with the press of a button just doesn't hit the right notes--but it's better than no fireplace at all!

My last few suites in CA all had a "real," in the wall fireplace; and the owners provided DuraFlame logs. I thought this was great. You didn't need to worry about "turning off" the fireplace either as the logs just burnt themselves out naturally.
