What is a Hob ?

Hi, I have been looking at different hotels in London that have small kitchens in the rooms. One of the things several of them say is included with the kitchen is a hob. What is a hob ?Thanks !

An hob is traditionally a range, however, its modern day meaning is that of what I'd imagine you call a stove - gas, ceramic, electic or otherwise.

It is a cooktop - an electric stove.

It is the heating element on a stove. I have four "hobs" on my stove.

m_kingdom and I were posting at the same time . . . One thing to note - if they only mention "hob" it is likely there is no oven.

If they say the kitchen includes a hob, it is likely a single burner/element hotplate type affair. Don't expect a full stove/range with oven in this case.

We stayed in a place with a hob once. It is not a stove - there is no oven. Ours was 1 step up from a hot plate: 2 small burners on a ceramic surface - about the size of one of those tiny stove - top grills. They really aren't useful for more than heating water or soup.
