Galveston - which airport?

I tried to look up flights to Galveston, TX on Kayak and Expedia, both "Galveston" and GLS give me a blank stare Is flying to Houston the only way to get to Galveston?

You'll have to fly into one of the Houston airports (another cruise? )

HOU (Hobby) is more convenient to Galveston than IAD (Bush). Less than 40miles

I'd use HOU as well, but it might depend on which airline/departure airport you are using.

Hobby.

Bush is about 2x the time from Galveston compared to Hobby.

Any airport Galveston has is not for commercial traffic, just private flights.

P.S. - IAD is Dulles, IAH is George Bush Houston Intercontinental.

I was confused with the times on Google, from HOU about 1.5 hrs, from IAH it showed over 3 hrs. OK, so it's one of the Houston's airports.

Janis, no, not a cruise. Was looking for something warm in January, still looking.

1.5 hours from HOU to Galveston? Only if traffic sucks (possible) and the rental car hire takes a while.

But if you're looking for something warm in January, don't go to a dump like Galveston.

Road construction lately has made it longer, but 1.5 hours driving time is too long now unless you are in rush hour traffic.

Russ apparently had a bad time in Galveston and always bashes it, but it is a nice Texas coastal island. If you like Space stuff, the Johnson Space Center is on the way from HOU to Galveston and is well worth a few hours visit.

We rent a beach house every summer and have all the kids and grandkids stay with us for a week or so.
