Ft. Lauderdale Weekend Getaway

My boyfriend and I are going to Ft. Lauderdale next week -- a break from the Chicago winter -- we just booked the Beachcomber Hotel -- any feedback on this hotel? Also, what nice restaurants should we try while we are down there?

All tips welcome!

Those ALL have great food IMO. Johnny V's is lovely, Canyon is great, it is my FAVE, try the prickly pear margaritas,,,,too die for, but it is rather noisey. Trina's is quite romantic too. We have been married for 36 years,,,romantic atmosphere is not part of our criteria ;-).

I would recommend a wonderfully romantic retaurant on Las Olas Blvd. (our most beautiful street) - Las Olas Cafe. It has an entrance on the street that takes you to a lovely, private outdoor garden area in the back (you can also eat indoors). Food is terrific, especially the duck. My husband & I go here all the time for romantic dinners..

Judyrem: Thanks for the restaurant recommendations. We come to FLL a couple times a year, and are always looking for new places to try. The menu for the Samba Room and Canyon look really good, and I LOVE prickly pear margaritas! Hope I get to try these places on my upcoming trip in May.

almost30: I have walked around the grounds at the Beachcomber, and it is very nice, but I have not seen the rooms there.

Good restaurants: Seasons 52, River House (downtown on New River; romantic), Capital Grille, Cafe Maxx (is close to Beachcomber), Blue Moon Fish Co.(pretty close to Beachcomber; good Sunday brunches), Charley's Crab for lots of seafood (not as far as going dowtown from your hotel). Canyon is good too, but I haven't eaten there in a long time.

I like the Seawatch for lunch (close to Beachcomber; on beach).

I am going for a half day beauty regimen this Mon at the Casbah(on Sunrise). I would like to try the Red Door Spa at Saks 5th..it is across from the Casbah..it is gorgeous inside...but not cheap .

Hi again, almost30 -- hope you see this post because I was wondering how your vacation at the Beachcomber worked out. We have the presidential suite booked there for next month and would love some feedback about the place.

By the way, are you still getting ready for your honeymoon next month? If so, hope you have the time of your life.
