Ft Lauderdale/The Keys in Summer ?

Hi
Myself & my partner are planning a trip to South Florida (Lauderdale & Key West) this year. Time & money constraints mean that we are looking at July but we're concerned about how much the climate may make the holiday uncomfortable. Is sitting round the pool a total non-starter at this time of year ? Surely the amount of air-con'd buildings eases life for people ? I realise that everyone reacts differently to the conditions but any advice from those who have been or those of you that live in the area would be really welcomed. Thanks in advance.

This really depends on you and your partner. I travel to Miami often on business and always at least once in July or August. I don't mind the heat at all and if you really just want to get away for some days by the pool it's great. AC is available everywhere, and unless you plan to spend all your afternoons outside walking (say amusement parks) for 4 hours why not go?

People do live and work in South Florida afterall.

I did the same trip last year same time of year. I loved it. The breeze off the ocean and the light showers seemed to make it more then bearable. I can't wait to go again.
Orlando in the summer though will never happen again, but around the coast and on the water was heaven.

I've lived in Fort Lauderdale all my life and while I absolutely hate the heat, it's bearable if you wear the proper clothing. Shorts, lightweight shirts, etc. If you lounge by the pool, just jump in whenever the heat gets to be too much. As a previous poster said, there are plenty of places with A/C to go into. Just drink plenty of liquids (and I don't mean alcohol) to keep yourselves hydrated. Sunscreen is a necessity in the tropical sun, even if you are just strolling around.

I think the worst thing about the heat in July is that it doesn't cool off at night. Temps can stay well into the upper 80s lower 90s past 11PM.
