Ft. Lauderdale--Hyatt Pier 66 or LagoMar?

I've got a reunion coming up way too quickly and need to decide between these two hotels/resorts. Any one out there stayed a either recently? I considered the Marriott Harbour Beach, but due to construction, ruled it out.

not aware of construction at Harbor Beach, there is construction next to Marriott's Beach Place Towers which is a timeshare on A1A down the road.

Lago Mar is very close to Harbor Beach so any construction would interfere with both resorts. Lago Mar is on the ocean, the Hyatt is not, in fact is it quite a little walk to the beach from Pier 66. LMF

If I were chosing between those 2 hotels I would pick Lago Mar. Very nice resort, with great pools and ocean. I don't believe any construction at the Marriott would affect the Lago Mar-they are seperated a distance by a couple of low rise condo units.

The construction I'm referring to is mentioned on the Marriott website...it's actually painting, but they refer to noise and "carefully positioned" scaffolding (sp.?)and it sure reeks of a disappointing experience to me! The reunion is actually being held at the Pier 66, so the rates are reasonable, but I'm traveling from the mid-west and staying on the ocean sure is more appealling! Unfortunately, Lago Mar's oceanfront/view rooms are not available. Does it make a big difference? Thanks!

I don't think it makes a big difference-the property itself is beautiful. Last May we stayed in a poolside suite that was on the 5th floor and actually had a view of the ocean too. We've also stayed in a suite in the front of the building looking out over the intercoastal which was nice also-just make sure it is not over the main entrance area as it can be noisy there. If the oceanfront is not availabe, go for the poolside.

jd, thanks for your advice. My husband and I are making this trip without the kids (a very rare occurance) and I've been told what a great family place Lago Mar is. Do you think it's TOO family for just the two of us? The rest of the group is staying at Pier 66, but I really want that ocean proximity!

You won't regret staying at the Lago. Its a great couples place too. I doubt you will feel over run by kids. I've been there a lot and have never felt that way. You'll love the beach. They also have a nice breakfast buffet each morning.
