Fripp Island: mosquitoes and atmosphere at peak
Hello and thanks in advance.
We are looking at a house on the south end of Tarpon, on the canal side of the street. Are the mosquitoes any worse there than across the street on the beach side? (I've been to Edisto a couple of times and right on the beach you're fine but the mosquitoes are pretty awful when you get out of that sea breeze.)
Also, we are looking at peak season -- very early August -- and I'm a little worried by someone talking about drunken golfcarters looking for parties... Is it like that then do you think?
Thanks again.

There really is no predicting mosquitoes. It's like predicting jellyfish, rip currents, or the weather.
I don't live on Fripp, so I can't tell you when the drunken golfcarters are out. But I think, if it was just one person complaining about one event, it might not be a real problem.

We've been to Fripp Island several times in early August and didn't have much of an issue with mosquitos but like suewoo says they are controlled by Mother Nature so you'll have to ask her what she plans for this coming August. If you are worried bring some insect repellant with you - we didn't need it but you might.
We never had any encounter with drunken golfcarters during any of our visits. Actually, I don't recall ever seeing anybody drunk (but that doesn't mean there wasn't someone somewhere on the island that had too much to drink).
