Frenchman street access

Staying at the Marriott Courtyard on Iberville street. We would like to enjoy all the jazz that Frenchman St has to offer at night. What would be the best way to get there and back? by streetcar or taxi (I'm assuming that walking would be out of the question because of distance). and if you know the price of the taxi, it would help. thanks

Walking isn't actually that far. It is a little over a mile, and you may be in the lower quarter for dinner or something anyway. But if you don't want to walk (or just don't want to walk back) a taxi is your best bet. The streetcar won't run late and will still leave you walking a bunch.

There's no streetcar. You could take a taxi. I usually just walk, even when I'm staying over in the Central Business District.

If you do walk, I'd highly recommend that you do the downtown part of the walk (past, say, St. Ann or so) on Decatur Street, in both directions. There will be plenty of foot traffic there, and I've felt safe walking back from Frenchmen even into the wee hours.

Yes, good point, you must be right about that. It didn't even occur to me, because, as you said, going to and from the streetcar would still mean a fair amount of walking.

Also, I've never walked around Woldenberg Park at night, unless there's a concert going on there or something. Is it a reasonably safe place to be? I would guess not so much.

The Bienville stop is on the edge of the park, so you don't have to go through it at all - but I don't think I would make a habit of walking through the park at night - too secluded. You do have to walk past a couple blocks of parking lots when leaving the Bienville stop though - might be a little deserted late at night, but again, I don't think the street car runs very late - and even if it did, by the time a person walked from the Bienville station to the Marriot Courtyard, they would have walked more than half the distance between Frenchman St and the Marriot Courtyard.
