Location is fine. Not in the middle of things, but walking distance to Harrah's and shopping.
A little longer walk to the French Quarter. Taxis are cheap and usually plentiful in NO, so if you want to ride, or if the weather is not cooperating this should not be a problem.

I have stayed there. Only an OK location for me as I spend a lot of time doing FQ attractions. It is quite a walk to Jackson Square. Consider the multi day passes for the streetcars and buses. Convenient to the Riverfront streetcar and a few blocks to the St. Charles. Next to Mother's but I doubt I will go there again, I have seen a terrible slide compared to several years ago. My last trip was 12/03

I've stayed there for business, so I spent most of my time between there and the convention center. My recollection is that it was about 10-15 minutes to Bourbon Street, and longer to other attractions in the FQ. The distances were not a problem for me, but I'd probably opt for cabs late at night.

It's OK at night- since the Casino is open, I would walk along there then up Poydras. It is more than a 10 min. walk to inner FQ- not much on the fringes. The problem with the W is the area is dead at night. You have Mother's next door- although I will probably skip it since the quality has taken a dive in my opinion. You also have the food court at the Riverwalk. I was just in NYC last week.
