Rants:
TX, so sorry. That stinks. Must you go in before Xmas? They shoulda told those babies to wait their turn! On the bright side... You got to jump start your New Year's diet... (I don't know if you actually do one; I just figure everybody does.)

Speaking of waiting a turn... This will be my rant. An old lady just breezed in front of me at the grocery store check out line yesterday. Just looked at my and my wagon (which was half full), said "I'm going in here," and pushed her wagon with just 3 items right in front of mine! Obviously, I would have invited her to go before me, but I thought that was dreadful!

Then at the liquor store, I was trying to figure out which brandy/cognac for a flambe, and some lady kept push her wagon between me and shelves so I couldn't see. I moved three times - and so did she! Finally she put her whole self right in front of me, between me and the bottles. Is that the strangest lack of common courtesy?!

Rave: Used above mentioned cognac for 14 year old son to create Steak au Poivre on videotape for French class. Nearly burnt the house down, but son did a great job narrating and cooking, and dinner was wonderful. The steaks, pommes frites, and haricots verts were all terrific!

Rave: Christmas with the Kranks was hysterical!!

Rant: Ocean's 12, horrible! Boring and uneventful, wait for the DVD!

Rave: Off to see Spanglish, I love Adam Sadler! ***kim***

Rave: Grandson's band concert last week and Christmas play last night.

Rave: Next week in San Francisco with daughter, SIL and grandson for a few days to enjoy the decorations, the restaurants and the stores and sights.

Rave: Christmas shopping done.

Rave: Christmas cards sent.

Rave: Beautiful people on Fodors. Even though one has not met in person connections are made and ideas shared.

Rants: None!

Prayers: That those with medical problems recover.

That those with loved ones in military are safe and return home soon.

That those that are lonely are remembered by others.

That those that want to cause harm and create chaos will find a way to find peace in their hearts.

Nice message LoveItaly, and lucky you getting to go to San Francisco.

Funny, Dreamer2, but a couple of people at work complained about that very thing (butting into grocery lines) last week and the culprits were both older ladies. In both cases, they would have let the person go ahead if they'd just asked. As for the liquour store lady, my husband would have loudly said, "Am I in your way?"

I haven't had a minute to be online til now so am just a little late...

LoveItaly--Beautiful words and I echo the sentiment!!

TX--I'll be thinking of you on the 21st. I'm sorry that you couldn't get things over and done with. I can't imagine how that made you feel.

Rave: My husband found a rockbottom cheap fare to EWR 12/25-28 ($116RT from ATL) so on a whim, we're going to NY to see my family. I didn't think we were going anywhere this year and I was bummed til my wonderful man surprised me.

Rant: It's such a last minute trip that my brother, SIL, niece and nephew (ages 4 and 8mo.) will be up in Rochester visiting my SIL's family the whole time we'll be home. I haven't seen my cuties since June and the baby was only 3mo. old then ;-(

Rave: We'll have my brother's big, ole nice house to ourselves and will be just 2mi. from my parents. (We could've stayed w/them but this is easier.)

Rant: Ever try to find a car rental on Dec. 25th.? The few places that are open jacked up prices to almost $100/day and even Priceline is asking for that kind of $!

Rave: My other brother and SIL will be around b/c she's 8 1/2 mo. pregnant w/twins and on bedrest. (the bedrest part isn't a rave!) Maybe these little twins will be ready for our arrival ;-)

Happy, healthy, loved filled holidays everyone!

To those going through hard times--many wishes for an easier 2005!

Way to go, Bonnie! What an accomplishment!! How in the heck did you stay on your diet these last few, calorie-laden weeks? I'm totally impressed. You deserve the cutest new outfit and braving the mall this week will probably force you to lose another pound since you'll be hiking from the far reaches of the parking lot!

Thank you so much, OWJ. I have been *falling off the wagon*, to some degree, what with Halloween, Thanksgiving WEEK (all week! ), but even when I "sin", I'm usually exercising at least five times a week (water aerobics and weights), and eating about half of what I did before I started this program. And, really, I'm not losing as fast as I probably should... am averaging five pounds a month off. Some people are able to do it much faster, but I can't live on less than 1500 calories a day, and refuse to walk around hungry! If I can just hold the line through the holidays, I'll be happy. Then really go at it again January 2! Thank you for your kind words and encouragement!

Wow, Bonnie, that is amazing! Congratulations! Slow and steady wins the race - and keeps it off. Now I feel guilty for discussing the treats over in the recipe thread!

Rave: Just back from a week in Utah visiting kids, grandkids, and friends. Unseasonably warm. Not much snow on the western side of the Wasatch Front but a fair amount on the eastern side, in the Park City area, and around Bryce Canyon.

Rant: My best friend, riding on the back of a motorcyle that went down to avoid a truck. She hit the bike which then hit the truck and she broke both bones (compund) in her left leg below the knee. She will be a long time recovering and I hurt for her pain.

Rave: The accident could have been a great deal worse.

Rave: The Christmas lights at Temple Square in SLC and in Layton (a suberb north of SLC).

Rant: My SIL (Army Sgt First Class) recalled to active duty in early January for six months training and then a year in Iraq. His one-year-old and three-year-old will miss him, as will we all.

Rave: I'll be with him and my daughter and grandkids for Christmas. Since I won't be here for next week's FFR&R's, Merry Christmas to all of you.

H. Bucket, and if you want them to look at the calendars, make sure they are Playboy or Playgirl calendars!

Rave: Looking forward to the nice long weekend.

Rant: This cold friggin' weather.

GoTravel, Way past Friday or not, I am sorry about your kitty, that is hard!! I hope that the memories of the years you had together will bring smiles to your face as you recover from this.
Be good to yourself this week. And try to realize how fortunate your dear cat was to have you.
