My son asked me to get him a subscription to "Popular Science." I nearly fell off my chair.

LOL!!! My youngest son asked for that same magazine many years ago and I nearly fell off my chair too. That's too funny.

Rave: things like laughter, good wishes for Mimi, and a little gasp for Mr R5 go on despite a world spinning out of control.

Rant: (might also be a petit rave) we nearly lost a very close friend the early part of this week to a serious suicide attempt(notes, will etc). This is someone with a wealth of personal resources not the least of which are wonderful friends and even she felt so horrribly alone in her depression. There's lots of anger in everyone and hope for repair. That's the good news.

And as Rosanne Rosanna Danna says : If it isn't one thing...it's everything else.

Rave: Cat sitter coming by tomorrow to interview moi and "the boys" for our trip to Montreal in late September.

Rave: Foot fractures healing well(x ray today) but I have to wear this damned boot for 3 more weeks. I have already crushed SO's cell phone (while taking friend to ER with OD earlier in the week)beneath it and taken out the speaker on the driver's side of my car.
Thank good for chiropractor!!!

Have a good weekend everyone and love the one you're with!

Rant: Terrorism. In all its forms, colors and sizes.

Rave: DH totally surprised me by picking up the entire tab for our recent Switzerland vacation. We had previously agreed on a 50/50 split on the total cost. He said I could pay for a short getaway over Thanksgiving....

hummm...I wonder how much money he really has stashed away on those Swiss bank accounts

The friends we stayed with in Switzerland sent us a thank you note before we even had a chance to send one! They were thanking US for staying with THEM. They are DH's friends from childhood and speak limited English yet they are so nice and welcoming! They made DD and me feel so included even though we could not communicate verbally that well.

Proves that willingness to communicate (and a healthy dose of good humor) will break any language barrier.

mini rant: Back to school for DD today. Can you believe it...on a Friday?!?!?!

Welcome back, Mimi.

Rant: Tow away zones.

Rant: Tow truck drivers who mess up the back end of a brand new car, then try to duck responsibility.

Rant: This spoiled DH's 50th bday celebration.

Rave: Finally getting insurance info from that butt head after numerous phone calls and threats of legal action.

Rant: The day after this incident, the aforementioned butt head was mowing his lawn, hit a bee hive and got 25 stings. I am posting this as a rant only because it would be very bad karma to rave because someone who tried to cheat us got swarmed.

....would it be bad karma to wish that just one bee flew up into his shorts??

OK you're right, that would be bad karma, so I didn't say that.

Happy weekend to all.

Rant: The terrorists who are so willing to engage in bad violence.

Rave: America, whose violence is always good.

Rave: Hypocrisy, it gets us through the day.

Rosie,
Do you spend all week coming up with these bits for Fridays, or are you a "regular" using a pseudonym for FFRR?

Mari,
Yes, WAY too early for school to start! And what's with the Friday opening?

Rave: That my 21 yr old departing for his semester abroad in India just made it through Heathrow before all this happened and to his destination safely.

Rant: That these things are still happening in the world - so I keep praying for everyone to figure out how to make it work peacefully

Rave: Back not 100% but got the OK to leave for Martha's Vineyard for remainder of summer and I can not wait to relax and rest and wiggle my toes in the sand and smell the ocean....countdown to Monday morning departure!

Rave: Fav cousin from LA coming with her hubby and 3 kids for five days....followed by some quiet time...followed by niece and her 2 kids !! Babies in the house again !

Rant: My son won't be on island this year and daughter can only make it from NYC for 5 dys , but I'll take it !!

Rant: No wireless where we are on island unless I drive to a library, so if I don't 'see' you all until after Labor Day - enjoy the rest of summer !

Rant/Rave: Congrats and Hugs to all who have happy things going on, ...prayers and wishes for all the rest...

Rave:
We're fostering another cat and four kittens for four weeks. It makes the kittens so much more adoptable when they've been handled and become used to people. It also frees up a cage at the shelter for a couple of weeks.

Rant:
The coating of dust we get in the house from the site work being done at the property behind us.

Rave: Fiance and I have been helping my dad all week on his porch. It needs to be finished and with all his health issues lately, he can't do it himself.

Rave: I feel so good when I leave, knowing that we've really helped him and he really appreciates it.

Rave: Learn something new each night, in regards to home improvements.

Rant: Little brother who knows this needs to get done but is so selfish and self-centered that he doesn't think to call dad and say I'll be over to work on the porch.

Rave: 1/2 day at work today then lunch date with fiance.

Rant/rave: getting fitted for my wedding dress tomorrow.

Rant: This crazy, messed up world!!

RAVE: Another week closer to Puerto Vallarta!
