Franklin Lakes, NJ - Manhattan
DH will be in Franklin Lakes, NJ for a few days this week and will come into the city to meet me. (Staying w/my parents on UWS)
Transportation options:
Colleagues will be flying out of EWR on Friday afternoon. They could drop him there and he could dial 7 or Carmel into the city, or ? transportation from EWR.
The Shortline bus from Franklin Lakes appears to only do the morning commute.
NJ Transit has trains that leave from Mahwah that go into Penn Station. I assume he can get a cab from the office in Franklin Lakes to Mahwah train station. Then he'll just take the subway.
Will the car services pick up at a location that is not an airport? (Like the office in Franklin Lakes)
I'm just worried about Friday afternoon/early evening traffic. Any suggestions? Thanks.

If he went with his colleagues to EWR, he could take NJ transit train into NYC Penn Station --about a 20 minute ride for the train itself (plus the ariport train to get to the station, plus any waiting time). There's a bit of a premium (about $5 ) for taking the train from the airport rather than from another nearby station like Newark Penn Station, but it may be easier for everyone just to drive into the airport and split up there.
Yes, I imagine he could also call a cab to get to another train station near his office and take the train into the city that way.
NYC car services might pick up from other locations in NJ, but I'd bet they charge a lot more. Trips to and from Newark airport are common and they know they'll get a fare in the back to the city, so they don't need to charge as much. Friday afternoon traffic can be bad in both directions, so I personally would opt for a train rather than car route.

Car services will pick up anywhere - but from there the fare will be genormous. How much luggage will he have?
If not much, let him catch ride to EWR with colleagues and than Air Train and NJ TRansit to city and cab or subway to upper west side. If more than he wants to haul around I would look at renting a car - would probably be less than a car service.

Better yet, Shortline/CoachUSA bus service from Mahwah.
Hourly departures from Ramapo College, which is quite close to FL, or any one of the stops along Rt17 corridor such as Ramsey @ Lake St, with buses every 30min.

Personally, I'd do the option I listed above as there will be frequent trains from Secaucus to NY Penn.
