Four Seasons San Francisco
Hi all
I am planning a 3 night stay in SF, and am leaning towards the Four Seasons. My question is, how is the location of this hotel? My wife and I (both mid-30s) will be coming to do the major sightseeing locations, and aren't big on bars and clubbing, but don't want to be stuck in a "dead" neighbourhood either.
Any comments on the Four Seasons will be gratefully received.

Stayed there in '03. It's near many things you'll want as a visitor. Most hot spots are a taxi cab away. North Beach, Sausalito, Embarcadero... Moma, GG park, Hotel Nikko has Anza for excellent sushi.
Are you arriving from the UK?

No, from NYC (although we're from New Zealand - San Francisco will be the final stop on our US holiday).
Thanks for your help. Did you think the FS was nice and a good location, or would you suggest we stay elsewhere?

I've never been to a FS w/problems, anywhere. As you return from your day's journey, FS makes for a sanctuary of consistent quality & service.
With S.F. in general, no matter our starting point, we either drive as locals OR cab for convenience. We visit family & friends living in the city and often cab even though we know the back roads and side streets.
You haven't mentioned something specific you want to be near - for walking distance - Dinner? Breakfast? Theatre?

It is on Market Street between 3th and 4th Streets, which makes it an easy walk to the Embarcadero and not too far from Union Square and Chinatown, etc., if you are walkers. I do not know the hotel itself, although DH and I stay in SF several weekends a year for theatre.
I don't think you could go wrong with Four Seasons, and the location is fine.

Market between 3rd and 4th? Is this the new hotel? This area may be deserted in the evenings and mornings. Also it's between 2 BART stations, but within walking distance. Buses 30 and 15 on Kearny to China-town, Firshermen's area.

OP....I just heard on KGO radio (SF) today that the San Franciso Four Seasons has been called the "number one" hotel for "sometbing" and heard part of the interview of its owner/manager..not sure. Sounds like a great place to me.
Whomever tells you that Market Street in this area will be deserted hasn't had the initiative to get a map of the city. What do you want? Blaring horns in front of your hotel room.
From here you can WALK to any city life you want.
Google the San Francisco Visitor's Bureau, get a map, educate yourself.

Actually, this area of Market Street is bustling during the daytime on the weekdays and the weekends. However, at night, especially during the week, it is fairly DESERTED as people come to that part of Market street to work and to shop for the most part only. It is very near to SOMA, North Beach, and Chinatown destinations as well as two blocks to Union Square. It is definitely not a "dead" neighborhood, but would be akin to staying in Midtown east in NYC (from Third Avenue going west to Park and Madison) where it empties out at night.
I have not stayed at the Fours Seasons as I live in San Francisco, so I can only comment on the location, which will be fine for sight seeing. I hope that helps!!

Hello Gratn, I wouldn't consider the Four Seasons in an area where you walk out the door in the evening and have a lively scene. However if you can afford to stay at the FS you can afford to taxi to whereever you want to go, which will probably not be far from your hotel. Welcome to SF and enjoy your visit!
