We have a cat and a dog. We must board them when we vacation . that is very expensive for us, but I know they are in good hands. I stay home alot now because my dog is recently blind and needs me to gain confidence to get around by himself. But I love him so much and he is so entertaining I don't begrudge it.

Good idea.
From: New England
Age: 40
Status: Married/one son
Occupation: Mom
Likes: Travel; reading; computer research; exercise; anything related to my pre-schooler; gardening, house designing; chocolate.
Dislikes: terrorism; abusers; most TV these days and crazy drivers

Regarding Stay-at-home Moms (or Dads) - I'll never understand how someone can judge a parent's decision regarding their children. We should applaud all parents (working and stay-at-home).

Having said that, I've found great travel advice on these boards. Heading to NYC and made my decision based on many comments from New Yorkers. Thanks.

so...let's see if I got it:

Pet owners, stay at home because your pets need you.

Moms, go to work for your "enjoyment" (to use Sally's words).

The rest of us: don't question this!!!

Here's a novel concept: let's put the kids first for a change -- not the pets, not the personal fulfillment! Moms, ask your KIDS which they would prefer...

Where - North of Boston
Age - 40
Status - Married with children
Occupation - lawyer (gee there are a lot of us)
Hobbies - everything Irish (books movies mostly music), planning vacations, volunteering at PTO
Dislikes - I like everything and everybody for at least a little while.

Here's a point of view for the stay at home v career mom debate. Last night two moms stayed after the PTO meeting to set up for the school's fundraising project today. Stay at home mom talked about her day full of meetings for the PTO, town library and a fundraiser to help a local family who lost their barn in a fire. She was so busy someone else picked up her kids from school and she fed them cereal for supper. Career mom worked all day, picked up kids from afterschool program, drove them to violin lessons, cooked a decent meal for family, did laundry, helped with homework and then went to PTO meeting while Dad made candy apples with the kids. Both Moms were pretty tired but happy. One spent a very full day helping our small community. The other spent a very full day helping her company. Who's right, who has the more moral position, who's kids were happier. Hard to say isn't it?

where: Fairfield County, CT
Age/sex: 41/female

status: married, 2 preteens

occupation: Part time software consultant AND stay at home mom (I work about 6 days a month)

Hobbies:Travel (of course), cooking, rollerblading, cycling and gardening

dislikes: Censorship, waiting in line, stupid people, traffic

Question for John, the 23 year old who dislikes Stay at home Moms, why? Did your mom stay home? I'm really curious about why you actually dislike them. I'm fortunate to have a choice, and lucky to set my own limited work schedule, but I don't think working or staying home makes anyone a better parent.

Sheila, Telemarketers at mealtime were at the top of my dislikes list until I virtually eliminated them. Once you tell a company to put you on there "DO not call" list, it is illegal for them to call you again. Next time you get a call, tell them to put you ion the do not call list. Get their name, company name and date first. Let them know you will pursue legal action if they call again. I now get virtually no calls!

LOL, Jeannie. I thought I was the only one bugged by the tardy checkbook thing. I always wonder if they think maybe the checker will say, "Oh no it's on the house". Another thing, why do people still use the checkbook when there is no charge for point of sale (ATM) use? Kiting checks is illegal so don't tell me they're hoping for the float. Float is getting to be so short these days anyway that it's pointless.

Where: Washington DC
Age: 35
Status: Single woman
Occupation: General counsel
Likes: Travel (especially New York and Paris, but really almost anywhere); movies (favorites: "Some Like It Hot," "The Philadelphia Story," and "Broadcast News"); books (just finished "An Unexpected Light" by Jason Elliot, about Afghanistan -- excellent); wine (currently into Tuscan reds); The Washington Post and the New York Times; music (at the moment, David Gray, Diana Krall, and Bob Schneider); "The Onion"; David Sedaris; Janeane Garofalo; Garrison Keillor; Margaret Cho; Manchego and Pecorino cheese with olives; Tim Russert; "60 Minutes"; "The West Wing" (except for last week's lame episode -- hope tonight's will be better); NPR; PBS; ice cream (any brand of mint chocolate chip, and Ben & Jerry's Chubby Hubby); walking and hiking; lavendar (the color and the smell); living in my neighborhood (Dupont Circle in Washington DC); diversity; Democratic politics; finding great travel bargains; this forum.

Dislikes: fewer and fewer hours of daylight during this time of year so that it's dark when I get out of work; corporate logos and ads everywhere, especially on clothing and accessories (if they want people to advertise for them, shouldn't THEY be paying US to wear their stuff instead of the other way around?); FOX "News" (and I use that term loosely); "The O'Reilly Factor"; Chris Matthews; Rush Limbaugh; Howard Stern; John Stossel; people who let kids see movies & TV in which the violence and sex is inappropriate for the kids' ages.

Aside to Owen -- Have you ever been to the Kerrville music festival in Texas? I think it would be right up your alley!

Where have I been in U.S: California, Hawaii, MA, Vermont, New Mexico, Penn, Washington D.C, Florida

Likes: Many most relate to food, travel and the s word. Aren't we all the same in this regard?

Dislikes: So funny this is different than the European board, so surprised that even some of the very small minded who felt it appropriate comment on a parent's choice actually travel. ...You learn something every day.

Hey yyy, what did you mean about the sad face? its not cuz your single I hope!I too am single and so are my friends, being single gives you soooo much freedom, like traveling whenever and wherever you want. If I was married I would not be able to move to Florida in a couple of months.
P.S. I usually use my real email address and real name but not here, I dont want any Chicago men asking me out LOL

the sad face was for less s word and food I was making a funny. ...since you have brought it up… I have reaped the rewards of being single but for too long now. It is particularly hard in this economy and in NYC to be single. Hold on to your positive view it is great but I just don't feel that way about it at the moment.

Hey yyy, I see your point I'm sure I will feel exactly the same way in 9 years. Remember: "if its meant to be it will happen" This always helps me, good luck and happy hunting also remember the old saying that "the grass isn't always greener on the other side"
