Owen,
If you type "nospametc.." in your header, will that prevent spam? Can you tell me how that works? Today when I got my usual nasty e-mail I replied that I want all future emails stopped or I would have it traced and prosecuted. I copied the email to my law firm in hopes that it would scare the nut away. If they don't stop, I really will have to look into what action I have available. I do know that they can be traced for sure, but I don't know the cost or process. Thanks.

Where- Boston
Age- 25
Status- In long-term relationship
Occupation- editorial assistant

Likes- Working out, travel, guilty pleasures like cheesy pop songs and trashy TV shows.

Dislikes- Not having enough time/money to travel. Feeling intense urge to relocate somewhere after I've come back from a trip there (Italy, Seattle, Chicago). Not knowing what I'm going to do with the "rest of my like" (ie, career-wise)!

Owen & Curious (& others) I too have posted my real email address once or twice a long time ago, not lately. Every day I get about 24 spams (mostly porno)...now if I want to give out my email, I do it in the body of the post, or include the "nospam" idea. Can't tell if the new spams are still from those old posts...

I hate to break it to y'all, but the spam you're getting is NOT because you put it on here.

It's because you either signed up for a free email service such as Yahoo, Hotmail, MSN, etc., or worse, your ISP sold your address.

It happens. It's like telemarketing, only via email. And it's legal.

I agree that it's entirely possible (even likely) that my email address was sold by Hotmail, Yahoo or even my ISP. I did, however, notice an increase in travel related spam a month or two after I began posting here with my real email address. The "bots" that cull email addresses from forums or other parts of the Internet can retrieve it from any place on the page - doesn't have to be in the header. It may possibly help stop bots from getting the address if one puts extra characters in the address that can be removed by a discerning human but it certainly won't stop loonies who harangue or pester people with unwanted personal emails.

Hi
I am 31, single, and a travel agent.
Likes: Jane Austen anything, movies of any kind (cinema junkie), volunteering for the Humane Soceity, good television (an episode of CSI is better than anything that hack Julia Roberts is in!), clubbing with my friends, good wine and good conversation, hockey, and traveling the world of course.

Dislikes: people who talk in movies (they should be put before a firing squad!), bad parenting (sad to see so much these days), animal and children abuse, hypocrites (like those who look down on pot smokers while they drink their 10th beer), people who litter (should get same fate as movie talkers), and right wing radical jesus freaks who want to tell me how to live.

Oh, and about the whole stay at home moms versus the working moms-don't care, I will remain blessedly childfree!! But to each her own.

Hi, Kelly and others Happy Christmas!
Well, I'm sort of 35 -44 and not counting anymore. Married with two great children (14 and 11) a dog, a cat and a horse. We are in West Sussex, England.

I love New York and all the Fodorites that are regularly on here - be they discussing, arguing or being really helpful with their advise, our trip to NY last year was so different because of the info we were given.

Dislike - people who judge other people without trying to see their side of things. I HATE Keenan and Kel, but my son loves them. I also dislike WWF but the whole family think that's great, so I read - I LOVE reading, also "meeting" people on the internet.

Used to work in a school as a teaching assistant, now working at home writing a book and going out to walk the dog and look after the horse. I've also been a travel consultant (pre children), but wouldn't want to go back to that.

Hey Sue Arnold-Social Security was intended as a supplement in the first place and not to finance your retirement. If you don't have a good financial plan honey you are not only screwed but stupid! And, the Dems have tapped into social security as much as the Republicans. Keep your partisan bullshit off of here Sue...
