Flying from NYC to Hawaii: airline recommendations

My fiance and i are taking our 1st trip to Hawaii this fall and have a million ?'s about flying there!

-Are there any non-stop airlines that are better than others (bigger seats, etc)?

-if we're going to Kauai...where should we fly into if we're staying on the north shore? Is Lihue a far drive from there or is there another airport?

thanks!

There's only one non-stop flight a day from the NYC area to Hawaii. It's on Continental from EWR.

If you're flying coach, seats are all about the same, unless you fly UA and get a "Economy +" seat. You need to be either a UA FF Elite, or pay $399 for a year of access to the Economy + seats. You get some seat, some service, but 3-4in more legroom.

And avoid long 757 flights. These are narrowbodies planes with just one aisle. On longhaul, one can find it uncomfortable and it's a pain in the *** to get out to use the bathrooms. Try to get a 767/777 flight if available.

There is one airport on the south side of the island. It is 45-50 miles to Princeville from the airport.

Just a suggestion. There is a web site
www.konaweb.com - this web site is about the big island. But there is a chat room. I have chatted with folks there from Kauai. Might give it a try, I am sure they can answer any specific questions you may have.

We stay in Kauai (Princeville) and fly Continental.(husband works for Continental so I am partial) They have a flight from Newark to Honolulu, then we use Aloha to Kauai. Lihue is really your only choice. Plan to get to Kauai early so you are not driving up to Princeville while its getting dark. (the darkness takes a little getting used to)The drive up does take a little while but the scenery is beautiful!

If you can at all possible splurge and go first or business class, I highly suggest this.
