Florida experts..need getaway spot for January...yes or no for the Keys?
Here's the deal...northern gal (and husband) celebrating my 50th birthday, destination my choice and looking for a warm, sunny, lush, green spot to help with the winter blues. Have never been to the Keys and for some reason am getting mixed feelings about going there. Like the appeal of a private cottage on the beach, hammock, SUNSET views, margarita in hand..you get the picture.
Not into the big resort scene. Would appreciate comments on going to the Keys versus elsewhere. Thanks.

Though the magaritas and sunsets are spectacular in the Keys, I think you'll run into a little more of a problem with the "private cottage on the beach, hammock" aspect. The beaches are beaches as most of mankind knows them. Having said that, I think the Moorings in Islamorada might, I underscore might, fit the bill.
To me, the Keys is a way of life. Laid back, casual, hot, great sea going activities. But it's NOT the Turks and Caicos. Or even South Beach. (Good thing, too.)
