Fishing on Kauai
Anyone been deep sea fishing and/or fly fishing while on Kauai? I have found a few websites, but would like to hear from someone and who they have actually used.
It seems that about a year ago, someone did a trip report and fishing was a part of it..thought I had saved it...but...you know how that goes.

There are quite a few companies here on Kaua`i which will take you deep sea fishing -- obviously, trips are dependent on weather/marine conditions.
The only fly fishing I've heard of is the big reservoir near Po`ipu (catfish and large-mouth bass).
Whether deep-sea or fly-fishing, whatever you catch, is yours to keep. It's only the commercial fishing boats which own their own catch.

In Sept 2002 we fished Waita Resv nr Koloa tho' it wasn't fly-fishing (guide said it was too windy most of the time).
We caught "Peacock Bass" aka tucunare, pavon etc. They get to three pounds or so, not the Amazonian size monsters ! Last I heard the guide had dropped the lease so I don't know if it's an option nowadays. See if there's anything on http://trykauai.com that's where I found it originally, drop her an email, she's very helpful.
The free travel planner from gohawaii.com Kauai section has ads for freshwater fishing too, I'll see if I can find mine.
