First time to Florida

Hello

My husband and I plan to visit Florida for our first wedding anniversary which is on the 1st Jan 07! Any suggestions as to where we could go? We were thinking of going to one of the keys but do not know which one.Is there any other place in Florida whee we could go? We would like to have a relaxed time at a beach or something and do some adventure activities etc.
Thank You!

The Keys would be a great idea. We were there 2 years ago and loved it. The Keys are not known for great beaches but if you stay in the middle around Marathon you can go to Bahia Honda State Park which has a couple of beautiful remote beaches. There is also lots of places to rent sea kayaks and other fun things. Try renting a convertible for your stay, driving over the causways was awesome! Weather should be warmer in the Keys at that time of the year better than anywhere else in Florida. If you have time you can always plan to stay in two areas say Fort Myers Beach or around Miami for a few nites to spend time beachfront.
Hope this helps

I'd advise you to go down to Key West, which is my favorite vacation destination. Having said that, I'll echo what the above poster says about keys beaches. Since the keys are coral, all beaches are man-made and most are tiny. However, I don't think you'll find beach activities any other place in Florida in January because it'll be chilly. Key West has tons of quirky tourist activities and is a place where you can do as much - or as little - as you choose.

The Keys are great. Marathon if you want to do some camping. Key West for more activities, restaurants, places to stay.

Hi!

We live in FL and generally vacation in the Keys or on Sanibel.

As a first-time visitor you should base yourself in Key West and venture out from there. www.keywest.com is a great source of information. If you have a car, venture to Bahia Honda State Park and go kayaking one day. Another day, you could take a trip to Islamorada and watch the sunset while having dinner at the Islamorada Fish Company restaurant. If you like snorkeling, I would suggest looking into a day trip to the Dry Tortugas.

Must agree with Laurelie's post about the beaches in the Keys. They are all man-made and much unlike the beautiful beaches of South Beach.

Would also HIGHLY recommend renting a covertible! IMO, there's no other way to travel to the keys.

My other favorite Florida getaway is Sanibel and Captiva Island. Search for "Sanibel" on the boards and you'll find some great information. (Sanibel and Captiva are on the Gulf Coast of Florida just outside of Fort Myers. Much more laid back than the Keys and the nightlife is limited.)

;-)
