Finger Lakes Nightlife

My DH and I are heading up to the finger lakes, NY in October for a wedding. WE decided to extend our stay to do a little sightseeing.

What town do you suggest we stay in? Perferably someplace that has a decent nightlif, considering we are both night owls.

DH and I also spent a week up there once in October, ending the week with a wedding. It is a fun region to explore during the day, but we found that the sidewalks pretty much rolled up around 8pm at that time of year. We even got kicked out of a bar at 8pm (on a weeknight). Geneva is a decent-sized town, so maybe you'd have better luck up there, but as I recall, Geneva was pretty deserted as well pretty early in the evening.

Ithaca to the south of Cayuga Lake, next to Seneca Lake, might be your best bet if you really want some night life. Citysearch lists a decent number of places under nightlife. According to Google Maps, Geneva and Ithaca are and hour and a half apart, but you could always move to lodging closer to your wedding the night before it or just stay there for the wedding and stay in Ithaca afterwards. That's what DH and I did. Good luck!

You might want to stay in Auburn..there are a few cool places, espeacially Swaby's...really interesting decor, centtered around the jail and its history. But if it's real nightlife you want, consider Syracuse or Rochester.

I don't think there is much night life in the Finger Lakes area, but if there is it is probably in Ithaca, which I believe is the biggest city. There are 2 colleges there, Ithaca and Cornell and you'll definitely find more restaurants and bars there than anywhere else in the Finger Lakes.

We just returned from FLX. It was all buckled down at 5:00 pm most nights. We stayed at a neat family owned motel in Himrod right on Lake seneca. Went to Ithaca for entertainment, Watkins Glen for the gorge hike at the State Park, Corning to the museum, rented a boat. Generally had a very good time. Bellhurst in Geneva is deluxe, very classy with great food.
