Ferry Boston/P'Town

We are spending 5 days in Boston and have opted not to rent car after reading many posts. However, we do want to spend some time on Cape Cod and a while ago someone suggested the ferry from Boston to Provincetown. Clean? How fast? How big?
Have any fodorites used this service? Any pros/cons?

Also- looking for good "new england lobster dinner" whilst in Provincetown- any recommendations?

Thanks!

Ghu- If someone does drop the soap perhaps they should pick it up and use it to clean your mind!

Lora- we have taken the ferry from Bos-Ptown and it makes for a fun daytrip ansd is convenient. Nothing fancy, just snack bar (gets crowded).

As for lobster in ptown- check out the lobster pot on commercial st.

There are a few ferrys going to P-town from Boston. I have taken the 90 minute ferry and found it really fun, quick, and a pretty ride.

The drive to P town is about 115 miles and will take close to 3 hours. The ferry takes 90 minutes. If you intend spending all your time in P town a car would be a hinderance. Take the ferry.

How crowded does the ferry get? We are planning on going on a Friday morning returning Friday night. Do we need to buy tickets in advance?

Also- any other suggestions for a good lobster restaurant? (although by it's name- the lobster pot may seem fitting!)

Thanks for all the help!

When are you going? Ptown is a summer weekend spot for lots of people in Boston, so that makes the Ferry crowded. After Labor Day, less of a problem. You can reserve tickets in advance.

Lora,

If you are going just for the day, you definitely want the Fast Ferry.

You could leave Boston at 8am and arrive in P-town at 9:30am. The return from P-town leaves at 3:00pm and 7:30pm. The fast ferry only runs through Oct 8. Fridays will be less crowded than Sat/Sun.

The Lobster Pot is very casual but VERY good. Water view is limited. Some of the other places with great views serve mediocre food.

My wife and I were in P-town about 10 days ago and ate at the Lobster Pot.

We are planning to be in Boston from Wed Aug 28- Sunday Sept 1.

Thinking about Ptown Ferry on Friday Aug 30, day trip only. Will look into advance booking.

Lobster Pot- would prefer better food and mediocre view than reverse.
