Feb. '03 how to plan?

Planning a trip to the Big Island for husband's con't. education Feb 12-19th. It will be two adults and two boys ages 10 & 12. We would like to go a few days early and possibly stay on Oahu and sight see. We have stayed at the Outrigger on Waikiki and liked it. Does anyone have any other suggestions? (something close to beach if not on it)Also, to fly to the BI should we book with Alhoa or have it booked when we book our flight in the first place? Right now we can get airfare for $600-$700 but were hoping we could do better. But do we wait and miss out on this one? Also when we are on the BI we will have the weekend to ourselves and would like to fly to Kaui since only I have been there. I know the BI is quiet and Kaui too but it is so beautiful I would love my husband and boys to see it also. Hope this message isn't too vague. Thanks for any help!

As far as hotels, check www.biddingfortravel.com and then book on Priceline.

As for airfares, fares change at 12:01 a.m. on Tuesdays, so Tuesdays are a good time to check. You also can have Travelocity do a fare tracker for for you and e-mail you when prices go down.

I don't know where you are flying in from, so I don't know if ATA is an airline which flies from your home. I have found ATA to be the best price thus far from Los Angeles on the dates I have needed to fly.

Serge, you don't want to stay on Tulane Ave or Chef Menteur. Both are in bad areas (hookers, drug deals, etc.). I know the Aussie dollar is weak now but I'd look around. Try Turbotrip.com or Quikbook.com for hotels or maybe bbnola.com for a Bed and Breakfast. You can do an online rate/avail search on all of these!

You may also want to try Priceline. There are good deals to be had although you can't specify hotel.

If you like Italian food you must try the North End, they have great restaurants & bakeries.
Fanuel Hall is great for people watching, the drinks aren't cheap, but Ames Plow is reasonable & you can sit outside & watch the world go by,
If you like museus don't miss the Isabelle Strewart Gardner Museum.
The Public Gardens are nice for hanging out & people watching
Have a great time
Ceck out a whale watch

Is there something wrong with Fodors or did the above two posters just hit the wrong button?

Prices for that week in February will only go up because it is Presidents Week which a lot of kids get out of school for winter break. If you are flying from the east coast, grab that fare.
