FBI Tour

We will be going to D.C. in September and would like to tour the FBI Building. They say that it is closed for renovations until further notice. Does anyone know how close they are to finishing and if it will reopen?
Thanks!

IMHO, "Until further notice" implies that it may be closed for renovation until the terror alert level drops. At any rate, there is no info forthcoming as to a reopening date. In the meantime, try checking with your congressperson periodically for the best sense of possible reopening dates.

Leave it to the FBI to say that it is closed for "renovation" when it is likely for security reasons and act like it is some secret operation when everyone knows about it.

If it makes you feel any better, I'll tell you that the FBI tour was by far the most boring we took in Wash DC a couple of years ago! We thought it would be our pre-teens' favorite tour and they hated it. So plan on something better - which will be almost anything!

The FBI and Bureau of Engraving and Printing Tours are presently not operating. I live here and think they were two of the greatest yawns in DC.

Spend your extra time at the Smithsonian Museums!

Consider visiting the recently opened International Spy Museum, which is only 1 block away from the FBI. Although there's an admission charge, it's more than definitely worth it!

how 'bout the souvenir shop - do you know if it is also closed?

i went through the tour a few years ago - the tour itself needed renovating! i did get the kids some t-shirts, though, and they thought they were great...

Agree with the above posts! The FBI was the most boring thing for our family also. There are so many other great things to do in DC, I would not worry about missing it. The Smithsonian buildings alone could take a week!

I went to the FBI building many years ago. I think there was a shooting demonstation. Now I heard that the building is closed to the public. They are afraid of Arab terrorists.

The CIA building was the target of an Arab terrorist attack a few years ago. A man started shooting with a machine gun and killed many people, including a doctor who worked at the CIA. The CIA, according to the TV programme that I saw has many ordinary people working there, like barbers, shop keepers, doctors. Not everyone is Felix Leiter, the CIA man in many James Bond films.
