Favorite Richmond Restaurants

I'm doing an extended business trip to Richmond, VA in January. When travelling for business, I like to find a few casual, reasonably priced restaurants for me to get dinner or even take-out (if they do it). I stay away from white tablecloth places, and try to minimize my reliance on Subway and McDonalds.

I'll be staying downtown, so would like ideas of spots 10 minutes or less from the downtown area. Ideas? Thanks in advance.

To give you a more specific example, I spent a week there in October and found a place called the Strawberry Street Cafe. It was perfect.. good food, not a chain, and reasonably priced. I'm looking for others like it (I'll definatley be back to SSC).

Bottoms Up Pizza in the Shockoe Bottom area of town (near downtown)! My husband lived in Richmond for several years and every time we're back in town we have to go to Bottoms Up.

We never went to SSC, but used to walk by it all the time when we went to the video store. It looked really cute... Sorry we missed it.

Ribs, Rolls & Cheesecake. It's not much to look at, and the name's kind of strange, but the food is great. It's run by a family: father/mother/daughter team. They do everything, cooking and serving. You can get takeout.

Just down/up the street is Comfort. Comfort would be more along the lines of Strawberry--casual, just not as casual as Ribs, etc. As the name suggests, they serve great comfort food. Mashed potatoes to die for.

Both restaurants are on Broad Street in the city, definitely within your 10 minute range.

Haven't been in awhile, but Kuba, Kuba is a cuban restaurant that is like a very tiny diner. I went there with another couple who was spanish and chose the place. I thought oh god, I am not going to eat tonight, but the food was excellent! I was very pleasantly surprised! It is near the VCU campus downtown.
