No, I booked these flights as a round trip by American Airlines and on the Departure they showed me DFW-EWR then JFK-FCO (Rome). Return FCo(Rome)-ORD (Chicago)-layover ORD (Chicago)- DFW.

We are 4 people in total, $25 US to change for an earlier flight within 3 hrs, that equals $100.00 That I'm willing to pay. If this works I can take train by my self from Laguardia to JFK with 5-51/2 hrs between flights.

Also I just cancel my insurance and bought another cheaper with the same coverages will save $300

While I think American owes you both a free change of flight and an apology, I'd just pay the $100 and change the flights to one of the earlier arrivals at LGA, either of which will give you plenty of time to make your connections at JFK with enough time for a leisurely late lunch if you so choose (there are some good places to eat at the AA terminal at JFK).

FYI: There's no train between LGA and JFK, but it's a relatively short drive (with potentially a LOT of traffic). Take a taxi from LGA. You could take a bus, but it will cost almost as much as a taxi (even with tip) and will take longer, but it's usually about a 20-minute trip, 30 minutes with traffic.

Yes, LGA financially and logistically make a lot of sense. The trip by cab should be about 1/2 hour but the highway that leads to JFK called the Van Wyck has traffic at 2 AM on a Tuesday.

There are a number of cab queues at LGA.

Enjoy your trip to Italy.

Definite;y spring for a few $ to change to LGA. This will be less than the cost of a car service from EWR to JFK - even if you had a chance in hell of making it (which you don't).

And there is no train from LGA to JFK. But a cab should do it in 30 minutes or so and for 4 will cost no more than a much longer bus trip.

I'm not surprised that AA did this = IMHO they are fatal - the worst customer service ever. And their security line at JFK can easily be 40 minutes or more long.
