Family Spring Break 2015
So it has come this time again where I rack my brains to determine a spring break trip for the family.
This year's request.....somewhere warm!!! Even hot!!! My kids are done with jackets, scarves, hats, and gloves (and to be honest, I am too!!!)
We live in Miami so Florida isn't very exciting to us!
I'd love to go to Hawaii especially Kauai as we haven't been yet - but the airfare is 1,000+ pp - times 4 for a one week trip and that's really OUCH!!!
We aren't huge fans of laying on a beach for days. We need things to keep us busy!! We love nature, adventure, hiking, water sports, history....
Not sure if I should post this in multiple forums or this one spot is best.... as we will travel to Caribbean, Central and South America...... We have considered Mexico - but feel like it isn't so safe to roam about, as just staying the resort isn't what we like to do.
The kids have off the last week of March.
Trying not to repeat places we have been......
California, Arizona, Utah, New Mexico,
Costa Rica, Panama
Vegas, North Carolina, NY, DC.......

I so can't relate to someone who lives in Miami and wants to go somewhere warm. I mean really???? That's where we Ohio people head.
Sounds like you would love to rent a villa on St. John but I think you are probably a little late for decent airfares and rental villas. It's beautiful, lots for families to do and an easy flight for you.
We also loved Kauai but that is also a plan ahead location.
Have you looked at Bosque del Cabo on the Osa in Costa Rica? Families have a great time there. I know you said you were in Costa Rica but thought you may not have been to the Osa.

LOL LindainOhio! I so agree since I live in Boston.
How about Puerto Rico? A very easy flight, lots to do, maybe a bit warmer than Miami. There's a recent trip report on the Caribbean board from someone (Tom42 maybe?) who recently went to Puerto Rico. Or there are lots of other places in the Caribbean with activities on your wish list: Jamaica, St. Lucia, Grenada, Barbados and as Linda mentioned St. John or even St. Thomas.

California is an enormous state--have you really covered all of it? (If so, I;m envious!)
How about Belize? Puerto Rico sounds good, too.
I'll throw in Portland, OR for funs and grins. Not warm in spring, but not really cold, either, lots to do. Might not even rain every day, depending on when your spring break falls
Also, not sure why you think all of Mexico is unsafe outside of resorts. We were in Oaxaca last year, and there's tons to do in and around Oaxaca City, plus you can go the coast, Mayan ruins, the mountains...

Mexico is perfectly safe in most areas tourists would visit. I traveled solo there last May again and stayed in a nice condo on Half Moon Bay in Akumal. If you want more nightlife and shops there is always Playa del Carmen - do not care for Cancun, too many highrises and beach can be rough on the long side of the 7.

Go to Belize. Direct flights from Miami. Only non-island country in North America where English is the official language. Plenty of places to go climb around like monkeys - jungle, ruins - or swim with the fishes.
And it's warm, which would be SUCH a difference from Florida.

My husband went diving in Belize a few years ago, the Blue Hole, Im still freaked out that he went. I've never been. I'm intrigued. Wherever he stayed wasn't a place to bring a family. Where should I begin my search for our base???

Newbe....he rented a house with a bunch of buddies on the beach....he said it was pretty sketchy and I wouldn't be happy bringing my kids there. But if was 6 or 7 years ago....
As of now airfare is $750 pp from Miami...to high for a one week trip.
sf....we've been to Oahu, Maui, and the big island. Just never to Kauai.
Flights to Cancun start at $245pp. I think I'm going to go in that direction.

Places to look into staying in Riviera Maya (look into renting a condo):
Isla Mujeres (island off of Cancun)
Akumal - my favorite
Puerto Morelos
Tulum
Playa del Carmen (larger city with lots of shopping, restaurants and nightlife)
