Family fun in San Antonio
I will be attending a conference in San Antonio this coming week and I'm taking my husband and my 9 year old daughter along. I'm looking for some good suggestions on what they could do for the week while I'm at the conferencce-- fun places to go, fun places to eat, etc.
We're staying at the Emily Morgan on the Riverwalk and don't have a car.

The Riverwalk area offers more eating options than you can cover in a week. There is also a week pass available on the trolley for under $10 that lets you board as many times as you wiss. Won't take you everywhere, but the three or four routes cover a big part of San Antonio. I believe you have to buy the pass at their office downtown which shouldn't be very far from the Emily Morgan.
There is an option to dine on a boat that travels the River during your dinner, a fun experience.

The trolley only costs 50 cents, so it might be cheaper to pay by the trip. It's a great mode of transportation downtown, especially without a car.
My friends & I really loved the Original Mexican Restaurant on the Riverwalk. The food & service was great and they had a mariachi band palying! We went to Mi Tierra and paid more but the food was average. The atmosphere was cool, but we liked the OMR better.
Besides the above mentioned attractions, the city is showcasing a bunch of different painted cows around the city. I think they are for the Breast Cancer Society. Anyways, they are really cool & you and your family might enjoy going around the city to see them all.

Should be a great time to be in SA - beautiful Spring weather!
Of course the Alamo is de rigeur, and close to your hotel (which is not really on the Riverwalk but not far from it). Your daughter may enjoy the Children's museum at 305 E Houston Street, easliy walkable from your hotel. The SA zoo is just a short drive or cab ride away. If they enjoy art, the SA Museum of Art and McNay Art institute are worth a visit, also close to downtown. The Institute of Texan Cultures is walkable from your hotel and has lots of intersting displays. If you'll have a car, Sea World is open daily, and Six Flags Fiesta Texas and Splashtown water park are open on weekends.
There are loads of places to eat. Mi Tierra is something of a tourist trap but the food is OK, and it is in the Mexican Market (El Mercado) area so they can browse for "tourist trinkets" while you are in meetings. Agree the food is better at Original Mexican Restaurant on the Riverwalk. Casa Rio is also a Mexican restaurant on the river, but I don't recommend it. Schilo's delicatessen downtown has good food and I think they still serve home made root beer. For more extensive info check out http://www.sanantoniocvb.com/

I would strongly suggst renting a car for at least a day and getting out into the Hill Country for some Mom and daughter "girl fun"!! Head to the LBJ Ranch near Johnson City and check out the stunning wildflowers. They will be near peak during your visit! Go to Fredricksburg, Boerne, Gruene, Bandera and New Braunfels and do some shopping.
