Has anyone stayed here - any feedback would be welcome. In the standard rooms which room numbers/and floors are best to request for good views? I don't want stuck looking at an airshaft.

Lynn, I stayed there last month. Rooms are typically NYC small (our was probably around 12 x 15 with one queen bed, desk, armoire. Decor was very pleasant. Bathrooms were larger than normal and everything was absolutely clean. Staff was helpful and professional. Rooms in with a 0 in the middle (503, 402, etc) overlook the park by the Natural History museum which is very pretty, but if you are a light sleeper, ask for an upper room where traffic noise would be less of an issue.

I am glad to see disquared posted here as I just read her NY report regarding the Excelsior on "another Board" just a few minutes ago. The hotel sounded very good to me.

Alas, he stayed in a one bedroom suite which I think was a great idea. Generally corner rooms on high floors have best view and most space.

I booked this hotel today (for June/July) after debating for weeks. We'll see!

Stayed there in 2002. It was a great deal for NYC. We were on the 11th floor and had a terrace. It was great sitting out there reading the Times. Location is great, too. There's so much going on in that area.

They seem to not want to guarantee me a non-smoking room. Is that normal? There's no way I can stay in a smoking room.

I suppose it's better than guaranteeing it and then not delivering. Have you tried the Lucerne?

Back from Excelsior last week. I can confirm that our stay was absolutley fine. We had 3 double rooms booked on 16th Floor as arranged (1602, 1604 & 1606). They all faced the park/Natural History Museum and because they were high you also got some of the skylive which was lovely. The staff were fine, we didn't need them much in any case - they stored our bags when we arrived early off the ship and again at the end of our stay.

Rooms were nice, small to medium but we were not in them much.

Area on Upper West is great though - more neighbourhood and exactly waht we wanted. Two Streets back on Amsterdam is lined with bars and restaurants and we had 3 great nights out with a short stumble home.

I can recommend Cosmic Collisions at the Nat. History M over the road - what a fantastic show. Book before your trip on-line!

We also liked our stay at the Excelsior in June/July. Staff was friendly, and rooms were fine. Great price. I LOVED the location.

Do any of the Excelsior's rooms have a small fridge?

The room we were in didn't have fridge or minibar.
