Everglades NP from Miami

We will be staying in Miami Beach and was thining about taking a day and driving over to Everglades NP. Can you get a good overview of the park on a day trip? Where do we enter the park coming from Miami? Anything or anyplace that we should make sure that we don't miss?

Yes! You can get a good overview in a day (or less). Either head south to Florida City and enter there or head west to Shark Valley. Search "Shark Valley" and "Anhinga Trail" on this board for an idea of the two places.

just remember there are a lot of mosquitos in the everglades if you stay in the open not so bad but if you go onto a trail, enclosed by vegetation, it's feasting time. even just driving thru is interesting, but stop at some of the pools and see the bird life, you can sometimes see aligators at the edge of the road in the wet areas, young ones...

We did a day trip to the Everglades in late May/early April. We did not see a single mosquito. Our guide told us that the mosquitos are never really bad because it is a natural "survival of the fittest" atmosphere and the ecosystem has just enough of everything it needs; therefore, there is not an abundance of pesky flies. Of course, he could have been telling us a huge whopper, but I am usually a magnet for the things and never got a single bite.
