Ever hear of this hotel in Mt. Pleasant, SC??
Trying to find a waterfront hotel in or near Charleston at the end of March for a long weekend and ran across this hotel - Shem Creek Inn. Anyone had experience with it? Any other suggestions?? Thank you.

Look this place up on google maps and read the reviews.
Shem Creek is an inlet where the shrimp boats tie up. Fishing boats usually go out early and come back late, but the noise may well be offset by the interesting activity.
Across the creek from the motel is a string of mostly-fried seafood places. I like fried seafood and have enjoyed the couple I ate at, but I didn't like them enough to remember their names.
I can't remember what is on the same side as the motel. It is a motel, by the way. It isn't an inn in any sense the includes the word "quaint".
It is in a good location for Mt Pleasant, Sullivan's Island and Charleston.

Ackslander is right. Shem Creek Inn is a motel on the creek. If you go there ask for a room on the water side.
Shrimp season doesn't start until May or June. However, there are bars close by that might get noisy late at night. The restaurants there don't have to have great food, since they have great views. Acks, the 2 on the same side as Shem Creek Inn are Water's Edge and Vickery's. Both fine, but, none are as fabulous as some of the downtown places.

If you head that way and are interested in some light reading, check into Dorothea Frank's books. I just read Pawley's Island (inspired by my birthday hammock) and she has one named Shem Creek. Not deep literary works, just enjoyable reading. Here's a link to one of her books -

Hey starrs. That is correct. BTW, I actually live in Mt P and enjoy Shem Creek.
I've seen DFB several times at Atlanticville on Sullivans. Her book ,"Return to Sullivans" mentions all the real staff!

char, there is but not from Shem Creek. Your best bet is to drive into town.
As nice as it is, if this is your first trip, and if you can swing it, stay in the Historic District. It's so nice to be able to walk right out the door into the HD. It's especially best if you won't have a car. When is your trip? If you come when it's hot you'll want to be close to your hotel for breaks.
Acks, it's the same boat that goes to Ft. Sumter. It makes stops now at Patriot's Point. It's fun to be out on the water, but it can be chilly in winter. Not this winter, though I wish we had cool ferries like Seattle.

Can you arrange your trip so you are in Charleston during a weekday? If so you probably can find someplace in the historic district under $200 (maybe under $150.) Prices are twice as high on the weekend in the spring.
