Charleston for Mother's Day
Driving to Charleston for Mother's day weekend with our son, daughter-in-law and daughter. Any great ideas of where to stay, have dinner or where to have brunch? We are from Calif. and our son lives in N.C. . none of us have been to SC. Any help is most appreciated!

Would recommend a board search, as there are several posts about this city here.
Food questions are in my experience best answered at the Chowhound website. My suggestion re food -- definitely eat at S.N.O.B. (Slightly North of Broad), where I had an excellent shrimp and grits dish.
As far as choosing where to stay, definitely pick someplace in the Historic District. You will likely want to be close to the major attractions, historic homes, and this area's eateries and bars.

If you'd like to stay right in the historic district, my husband & I recently stayed at the French Quarter Inn (fqicharleston.com) & really liked it. Friends of ours have enjoyed the Harborview Inn (harborviewcharleston.com)& the Francis Marion (francismarioncharleston.com) as well. We've also stayed in Mt Pleasant in a cottage on the river which was lovely (2 BR, 3 BA) - Belvidere Resort (ginnbelvidere.com). We loved that it was so close to Patriot's Point & Isle of Palms; it is also a short drive or river taxi ride to the historic Charleston district.
In downtown Charleston, we've enjoyed Tristan at the FQI, Blossom Cafe, Magnolia's, Peninsula Grill (I know there are others I'm forgetting).
In Mt Pleasant, we love the Mustard Seed & we also really like the Boathouse at Breach Inlet.

I suggest you consider Cru Cafe or Hominy Grill for brunch. A lunch at Jestine's is fun. For the special meal, Magnolia's would be my recommendation.
A nice inn a little off the beaten track but completely convenient to the historic district is the Anson Inn.
Have a lovely visit. If this is your first, it won't be your last!
